“The Locksmith”
It all begins with an idea. I first met Harmony Samuels back in 2015 when I interviewed him for a feature article about his music, impact in the church and entertainment. During his interview, I was completely moved by his story—not because of his Grammy-nominations or A-list roster of singers he has worked with— I was moved after learning he died at the age of 13 and came back to life after a tragic car accident. That’s when I knew he was something special to this world.
Fast forward to the end of 2019, I got the idea to start a documentary on Harmony after watching a few music documentaries on Quincy Jones, Clarence Avant and Bob Marley. I was fascinated at their stories, but I really thought to myself, “ Harmony has such a compelling story that needs to be told and he is not even half the age of Quincy or Clarence—his story needs to be told.”
Although the full feature film has not been completed just yet (looking for full funding to complete TBD), I hope to capture Harmony's harrowing story of his ambitious drive to live life fully after tragedy and his mission to unlock purpose and change the lives of people he encounters. From working and building relationships with artists like Janet Jackson, Ariana Grande, Kelly Rowland, Chris Brown, and many more, The Locksmith streamlines the eye-opening life of Harmony. It is a film that shows that faith, purpose, and pop culture can live in one space.
“Queen”
My inner child never understood or knew the totality of love. Due to constant societal pressures, ridicule and off-balance self perception, I always saw myself as unworthy and not beautiful. This poem revisits and reframes the mentality I’ve had towards my body for years and regains control of who I really am.
Debbie Allen Dance Academy #ChangeRightNow
In light of police brutality in 2016, I gathered students of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy Summer Intensive 2016 together to show that they are the next generation that will create change by coming together through dance. The dance academy has been known for its resilience in activism in the arts by displaying diversity in its dancers, community and performances. Song: "Change Right Now" by MAJOR. feat. Amber Riley.
